The South Saskatchewan River Basin (SSRB) Water Supply Study was undertaken to address the concerns of limited water supply and the increase of demand on water due to economic and population growth in Southern Alberta. The study included a detailed assesment of current and projected water demand as well as current and future water supply. This involved simulation modeling to determine the magnitude and frequency of water supply deficits with respect to in-stream and consumptive use. It also included the identification and evaluation of structural and non-structural solutions to mitigate or even diminish the water supply deficits.
This next phase of the study will entail a review of the findings of the previous work and to narrow down the focus of identified structural and non-structural solutions. It will involve additional simulation modeling to determine the impact of such solutions.
